SB Patil Institute for Dental Science and Research was started in the year 1991 by the Somanath Educational Trust and during the last three decades of its existence, the college has provided quality education and clinical experience to its students and more than 1,000 students have graduated from the institute. It is a matter of great satisfaction that the doctors turned out by the institution are providing valuable service to the people not only in Karnataka but also in other parts of India and even overseas and are holding the banner of SB Patil Dental College high which was realized in the recently held alumni meet.
There have been many reports that the field of dentistry is in less demand but as per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India dentist to population ratio is around 1:8,018 which is less than the ideal ratio of 1:7,500 as per WHO. The problem is that the dentists have concentrated in urban, metropolis where there are already many dental clinics in operation. In my view as the nation’s development extends to smaller cities and places in India, the requirement of dentist will grow in such places and unlike other courses, a dental surgeon can start his independent practice and make a good living. I welcome the students to take the course in this esteemed institute to start their dreams of being a health care entrepreneur.As the management of this college, we promise our students to provide adequate infrastructure, clinical experience and good skilled faculty for them to graduate as an excellent dental clinician.
